SPORTS TRADING CARD COLLECTION BRINGS IN OVER $20MM AUCTION
While vintage baseball cards for sale at auction are always of interest, there was a particularly exciting auction that just wrapped. A Florida doctor’s ultra-rare trading card collection just sold for a whopping $21.5MM. VINTAGE BASEBALL CARDS FOR SALE
The trading card auction, featuring the collection belonging to Dr. Thomas Newman, closed earlier this month. Exciting trading cards for sale included a 1933 Goudey Babe Ruth card (graded PSA 9 on a scale of 1 to 10) in addition to a 1952 Topps Mickey Mantle card. The Babe Ruth card was purchased by Dr.Newman for just $20,000 in the mid-1990s. Flash forward to 2021 auction and this vintage baseball card for sale was the single most valuable item at auction as it sold for $4,212,000.
OTHER BASEBALL TRADING CARDS AND MORE FOR SALE AT THE AUCTION
Other noteworthy vintage baseball cards for sale included a 1916 Sporting News rookie card of Babe Ruth, which sold for $1,452,000. The 1952 Mickey Mantle card (graded PSA 8) went for $2,112,200. It is also worth noting that Dr. Newman’s trading card collection went beyond just baseball cards for sale. The impressive collection included over 1,000 baseball, football, and hockey items, some dating back as far as the 1880s.
